December brought the final matches of the group phase in the Alpe Adria Cup, after which the eight play-off participants were formed. Komárno also made it to the quarter-finals in its debut, thanks in large part to Shane Gatling, the MVP of December.
In the AAC group stage, no team managed to maintain a 100% record, although the „Devils“ from Komárno came close. They went into the final two games in Group C with a 4-0 record and already assured of advancing to the quarterfinals of the playoffs. They were eventually robbed of this great winning streak by Kolín (68:69), but immediately afterwards they made up for it with a triumph over Škrljevo (88:79), thanks to which they finished first in the table. Gatling, one of Komárno’s newest reinforcements, made a significant contribution. He averaged 24 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, which earned him an average effiency of 19.
„This is a great feeling! But I couldn’t have gotten this award without my teammates and my coaches. I’ve only been here for about 3 weeks now and everyone has accepted me with open arms and they’ve allowed me to play my game and accepted me to help them win games and compete for the championships. They encourage me to be aggressive and they still teach me things everyday,“ said Gatling about the award.
Komárno will play in the quarter-finals of the Alpe Adria Cup against Šibenka, the first match is scheduled for 25 January 2023 and the rematch on 8 February 2023.
